Hey I have recently jumped back on a server world I have been working on its started as 1.8.0, tho my character has an Alex skin rather than a Steve skin, I have tried logging in to the web based site and changing it to the default Steve skin but no matter how many times I try it remains the same, a friend of mine who comes on to play has a Steve skin and when I am on the offline worlds I have a Steve skin. Does any one know where the problem might be and how I can change it to a Steve skin?

Also the problem isn't 1.7.10 because Alex skin doesn't even exist in that version
It's possible that Minecraft can't get to Mojang's servers to download your newly-applied Steve skin and has reverted back to picking Steve/Alex based off your username. If you aren't connected to the internet, you'll have do deal with that.
If you have to be offline, you could use a resource pack to replace Alex with Steve (but this isn't my area, so I'm not sure)
well actually its because of the different skin formats of Alex and Steve because Steve is 64x32 and Alex is 64x64
Steve isn't 64x32 anymore, actually. All skins are meant to be 64 square since 1.8. Anyway, image resolution shouldn't have anything to do with it. Whether you are Steve or Alex is based off your username unless you manually assign a new one on Minecraft.net. This also means that if Minecraft can't get to minecraft.net (or skins.mojang.com or whatever they changed it to) it'll go back to basing it off your username.

the alex skin does have 2 layers everywhere but steve skins only have 2 layers on the head just because 1.8 doesnt mean its nobody having a 64x32 and 64x32 not existing

Why'd you guys bring a necro back? Any ways, is there a problem using the Alex skin because I personally don't think its bad idea and also you should have used a custom skin other than Alex and Steve because that way it'd be cooler (my humble opinions).
2 things in the 1st sentence what do you mean? 2nd i have a custom skin but i cant use the alex skin template till the good mods come out for 1.8 like applied energistics 2 and all-u-want (ill wait in 1.8 if the mods i need come out 1.8) and also thermal expansion and that other stuff come out too for it thats when i can get a 3d looking tail on my skin also ive put that as a suggestion for player models able to have tails if you enable it in the skin option things in 1.8 because then skins like mine can have real tails not fake 2d ones/mpm mod tails that only i can see it lol
