I've seen this issue happen on 1.7.4, and 1.7.10, that's all I really play on so I don't know if it happens on other versions. I'm running windows 8 if that helps you think of a proper solution.
I have been playing Minecraft for nearly two years, and I have recently been struggling with this problem. When I'm on multiplayer servers, the screen freezes, but the game continues. For example, I will be playing, and then randomly the screen will freeze on one specific frame. If I press ESC, then my mouse will pop up, as if the menu is open, and when I press the chat button the same thing happens. This also happens when I press E, for my inventory. Also, if my sound is on, I can break blocks, and on other players screens, I can still move and hit players. This has only occurred in multiplayer.
I have tried many things to fix this problem, and I've looked it up multiple times, however nothing has solved this issue. Either my solution doesn't work, or when I'm looking something up, it's old and outdated. I play in full screen, when the screen freezes I press F11 but then the screen minimizes and turns white. I've also tried pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL, however the same thing happens, the screen turns white. I've tried F3 + A to reload chunks, and I move around, I've let the screen sit there for about 5 minutes, but it just stays frozen.
I've run out of ideas to try and fix this problem, nothing is working, and it's starting to get fairly annoying to play. This happens quite frequently, randomly in the middle of gameplay.

I'm still running into this issue and it's been over a month. The same thing happens, I can type, I can break blocks, and I can PvP, however the screen remains frozen. I've let the screen sit for about 30 minutes and the screen is still frozen. Again, any help is appreciated.

Have you reported this to the server, and does this issue occur in Single-player or on any other servers? Also what Java version are you using? (it shows up in the top-right corner when you press F3)

Try the FN key and F3 Key at the same time.
I also have this problem!! After a while my game will freeze I can still do everything, just the graphics won't 'update/move'. Same as you described. I believe my friend got frozen screen in SP but I'm not sure. But I get it a lot on servers (Server Play 96%, of the time 4% of the time, SP play)

This did not help, like I said I've tried everything that involves F3. I recently got a new computer, and after a while of the glitch, or whatever this is, not happening, it finally happened. I still don't know why. Any help is appreciated.
