I have a hankering to play the last good version of Thaumcraft, which is TC2, and I need to use 1.2.5, but I don't figure out how to properly mod 1.2.5 using the new launcher. What do I do?
If TC2 is a Forge mod, just install forge for 1.2.5 on the website. If you can't see it, try the legacy builds.
If it uses ModLoader (for some odd reason) it may be more challenging. There are some minecraft.jars floating around for various versions, try looking for those. You can access the legacy launcher in your program files as of 1.8.

Well the problem is that both forge and modloader edit the .jar, and for whatever reason, editing the .jar on the new launcher deosn't work.
That's gonna be a long tour but okay I'm willing to do that guide with you
Fantastic, you're a great person. Now, can you tell me how I go about installing modloader and audiomod as well? I don't want to play thaumcraft with my littlemaids, you know?
I nkow they used ot all work in tandem, but its been so logn since i actually MODDED minecraft, instead of just dragging and dropping to the mods folder.
I looked back at it and found out that the reason it doesn't work IS because of the new launcher, and since risugami is probably not going to update any of this modloaders to work with the new launcher, its basically 100% impossible to play modloader mods now. I COULD get it to work if someone had the old launchers files in their entirety, and could just play offline, but I'm hard pressed to believe anyone has the old launcher with a completely untouched .minecraft with it.

Let's do some math.
1/3 = 0.333...
1/3 * 3 = 1
0.333... * 3 = 0.999...
1 = 0.999...
1 - 0.999... = 0.999... - 0.999...
0.0...1 = 0
0.0...1 * 10... = 0 * 10...
1 = 0
