I have a very old minecraft free account. I know that it's impossible to upgrade it without migrating, but trying to buy minecraft through the migrated account makes me lose my username. Is there any way to keep my old username when buying minecraft?
The only solution that I've found is to buy a gift code then redeem it (for some reason this gives you the option to preserve your old username). The problem I have now is that the Mojang online store says buying gift cards online is "temporarily disabled", and it has been so for months now with no sign of it returning. There are no longer any online sellers (Amazon, etc.) that sell the gift code. In fact, no stores seem to even sell physical gift cards online.
On top of all this, the minecraft website also says that prepaid cards are not available in the US. I've heard from people that gift cards are still available at a few stores (Best Buy, Target...). Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? Otherwise I'll have to find a store nearby to buy it. Considering that I don't drive and there are no electronics stores within a few miles of me, it will be pretty complicated to do that.
