I know nothing about minecraft downloading at this time and i hope someone can help me overcome this problem thanks

Check the windows firewall or any other software firewalls you have on your computer (Norton, Mcrappy, etc). If it is on, turn it off and try to download again. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling java on your computer.
