Hi in 1.7 I had around 400 fps in 16 chunks, in 1.8 however i only get around 40 fps in 16 chunks. which is confusing because i have a computer that can run Arma 3 at 60fps. I cant find any other posts about what it might be because, all the kids with $300 laptops asking about why there lagging. I have no idea why its lagging when, other people with the same setup get 500 fps in 1.8
I also have lag issues. My performance is about the same that you're getting, but I have an i7 4700MQ, 6 GB of RAM and a GT 755M, so I guess your case is more severe.
Minecraft is horribly optimized in 1.8, I am really surprised this thing hasn't been fixed yet. Anyways, there should be a 1.8.1 patch coming soon to fix this problem.
I know there will be a 1.8.1 soon, but what if that doesn't fix it?
But anyways, how can you release a full update being that horribly optimized? I think we can safely say they knew about all the lag issues way before releasing 1.8... then, what happened?! It's just that...
Just tested it, and yeah, I still have performance issues. It might be little bit better, but FPS are still unstable.
I'll give it a try and wait until 1.8 is fully released...
And I said that because "UH, it's snapshots, all is a work in progrusss, did u expect a snapshot to be fast?!!1!" or "i dont have that issue, so shut up and thank mojang cuz its goin well for me, dem h8ers" And guess what happened!!
I've been lagging horribly too since the update. I was about to make a post about it until I saw this one. So I take it there's no fix? I've been messing with the video settings (like render distance, which usually works) and nothing is helping at all.
I have a monstrous PC that can play Rome 2 at near maximum at 40fps. In Minecraft I'm getting extreme lag. It's like enemies are floating around in slow motion. I'm down to 5-10 fps in some spots. Averaging about 15 fps.
1.8 has completely destroyed any sort of performance Minecraft had. If it doesn't get fixed I'll never be able to play again until I get a new computer.
- Don't expect it to run faster than vanilla (but it may run much smoother)
- Don't expect all features to work (some do, some don't)
- Do expect it to crash and in this case please post the crash report (error log) in a spoiler
Known problems:
- placing stained glass blocks (panes) may produce ghost blocks until the chunk is updated again
- when placing blocks, the block bottom may flash for a single frame
Please add some info to the reports:
- CPU single/dual/quad-core
- GPU Intel/AMD/NVidia
- FPS comparison with vanilla when standing still and when moving
- Smoothness feel (fluid, sticky, micro-stutter, etc)
Edit: Despite some ocasional lag spikes (which are actually way better than vanilla 1.8) everything is going great. I can play perfectly fine with a 16 chunk render distance; it's way more stable now.
I have the exact same problem, 1 day I'm getting 100fps then the next day I'm getting 2-10fps, I can play any other game with great performance, minecraft is the only game that's lagging for me and it's completely unplayable, and the 1.8.1 pre realese dosent do anything.
That's a perfect example of 1.8 for you. Hop over here and grab Optifine early access alpha for 1.8. It increased my frames like a beauty. Look at the 17th post on that page, by sp14x.
EDIT: Just checked the others' comments, and saw that this was already posted. My bad.

I guess that's an improvement? Still lots of stuttering.
Minecraft is dead until this gets fixed.
