Hey, I have been using an HP laptop to play minecraft on, It has some serious overheating issues, so I had to stop playing minecraft for a few months, I recently was able to start playing again on a new Mac computer. but my main question is, Do I need to update minecraft on my old computer to 1.8 from 1.7.10 and risk overheating/killing the computer? or can I move the world files over without updating? I hope this is in the right subforum... Thanks in advance.

You can set your profile to run any version you want.

You can move world files to another computer.

BUT. If you take a world that was opened in 1.8 and then open it in an older version, you will lose all your items in your inventory, or in any chests, or in item frames, etc.

Thanks for the reply, So If I take a level that is 1.7.10, and put it on another computer that is 1.8 will it update the world to 1.8?
