Moderatorand have a look at this http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/kb/socketexception-unrecognized-windows-sockets-error-04/
I took down windows firewall and defender. I also disabled McAfee. This did not work and I got the same error
I figured it out!
All i had to do is install java from this link: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html
