Hey team, I've got an odd problem playing LAN with my friend. We play all the time, but all of a sudden, this problem has started happening:
Every 30 seconds - 5 minutes, the host kicks the client. The error log varies, but it is typically "Connection timed out".
He can log back in immediately
The client isn't immediately removed from the game when he gets kicked. He plays around for a minute or so, then disappears. Everything he did (client side) is un-done. It's particularly aggravating.
Upon logging back in, the game has trouble placing the client back in place. Half-inside floor, placed on roof, shown falling off a nearby cliff (complete with crunch!) but then blips back to where he belongs.
Sometimes, the client is completely invisible to the host. The host sees chests opening by themselves, blocks being placed, but no visual, sounds, or particles.
There's no other obvious effect to the host.
The problem persists. On and on and on for hours it has gone on. We're not sure what is causing this, because we've been playing LAN on 1.8 just fine up until two days ago.
I don't know what is the problem. We were playing just fine, and it suddenly started happening. My friend (the client) switched laptops (the first one ran Windows 8, the other one runs Windows XP) and the problem persists for him. We haven't tried other LAN on other worlds yet. We haven't tried reversing host/client. We HAVE tried rebooting the machines and restarting the games. It doesn't help.
Sorry my post format is completely screwed up. I don't know what the heck is up with this either. Just another problem for another day I suppose.

It doesn't seem to be the firewall.
