Sorry for the late response lol, I gave up on Minecraft.
I have no idea if the BIOS settings are okay for my RAM, but I don't think that's the problem, nor faulty RAM. I bought this computer not that long ago, all I changed was the video card and the power supply. I don't even know how to access BIOS settings on Windows 8, I looked it up and people were like force a shut down and mash f2 lol, but that doesn't work...

Default it is either F2 or Delete being most common. But I doubt it is the BIOS, more less being an locked down pre-made HP machine.
Have you tried reinstalling the AMD driver?
Also I would get Hardware Monitor and watch the temps. Load it up then attempt to play and preferably when/if it goes unresponsive, take an screenshot of the temps and post screenshot.
(voltages work too if want to include them in screenshot or separate one)
Windows 8 platform here. I deleted all my java from the system, then re downloaded the older and the latest version both. It worked for a while. When the latest patch came through I had to redo the process...thinking this may be one of those things Minecraft should be thinking about patching.....

If you have a minecraft problem relating to java please make your own thread giving crash reports etc, you may be having a totally different crash to everyone else
