This is a known issue when upgrading to 1.8, then going back to 1.7.
The ways items are stored ingame (item id's) has changed for 1.8 and when you load in 1.7 the game doesn't know the new format and removes the unknown items.
If you don't have a backup then you will have to cheat the items back somehow.
This is why they always warn you to backup before updating to new versions and snapshots
I recently changed versions of minecraft cause 1.8 was super laggy.
When I switched over to 1.7 all my items were gone from my inventory and chests.
I need them back D: too much time put into getting them.
Anyone have an idea of how i can reverse it/ get them back?
Currently i'm gonna try to hop over to a different restore point and copy the data, but last time I tried it didn't work.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
(Also, sorry if this is in the wrong section. was a little confusing)

No. The entire ID system got re-written.
