I've just tried placing some light blue stained glass in a house I'm building and it's showing up as a pink and black chequered block when I place it, it looks right on my inventory screen.

It looks like it fails to reference a proper model.
Try to report it on the bug tracker, but search this issue first.
You may need to attach the crash report. To do that, initiate a "debug crash" with holding F3 and C for 10 seconds or so, and copy the crash report that pops out.
Before that, place all colors of stained glass. Which ones are purple+black checkered?
