Not sure which section to put this in. Hope this is okay.
How to best get my kids playing multiplayer? Especially with each other?
I don't know the game but looked at it and saw the LAN thing and tried that. My machine and each of theirs.
Didn't matter which game I opened to the LAN the other machines couldn't see it. I couldn't get any connection going. Even when I input the IP address and port number.
Found a thread about it here but it was two years old and I got no help out of it.
What I would really like is for them to play with each other on the LAN. That'd be the best thing.
I downloaded the server but haven't got it going yet. Is it a better way to go? Will the server work on the LAN without any internet?
Are they both in the same house? Like the two computers?
If so:
When you open the game, just log in with one account, then open the world you want them to play on, then open settings and click Open to LAN then on the second computer (has to be a different account) open multiplayer, and at the bottom something will show up, saying the world that was open, and the IGN (In game name) of the first account like so:
Yes, they are in the same house. It is a home LAN. 6 computers on a wireless LAN. Some win7, some winxp.
I did what you've said and it doesn't find the other computer. Doesn't find any other game.
The multiplayer search thing there never finds any other machines, never. Could it be the Wireless LAN thing? Does it need ethernet LAN?
And I never got any notification of your reply, should I have got an email? I had to come back and search around. I look now and can't see any choices other than 'unsubscribe' which makes it look like I'm subscribed alright.
If it's not that then I don't really know... I'm not quite sure with the Wireless LAN thing, but I would doubt it need ethernet, so maybe look around some more for help, and if all else fails then just go play on a sever together I think this one is family friendly if that's what your worried about:
If the game isn't showing up automatically on the list when you open to lan it maybe a firewall issue, you can also manually add the server and type in the local ip of the computer that is hosting (the one that clicked open to lan)
