Hello Community,

I am running a fresh Minecraft with only optifine installed. My F.P.S. on a single player server fluctuates between 30-70 fps. I believe my computer should be churning out far better. currently my JVM argument is the one that was preloaded, interestingly enough googling it recieves No Results

Thank you Grimallq for replying. I have done both and am still achieving only 50 fps on average. Even though this is a laptop I rarely move it, so it was already on high performance.

All that I can suggest is to delete the 1 from your JVM augment and replace it with a higher number such as 4G or 8G. This should help if your running mods. If this is your vanilla performance than theirs not much that can be done to fix it. A 2.4Ghz chip set is really at the minimum requirment for minectraft. The only other solution that I can see would be to overclock your CPU but I don't believe that yours is unlocked, if it is it would be best to bisable two of your cores first to increase stability when overclocking. Minecraft is a strange game that runs best on small core processors but as grimallq said in version 1.8 minecraft no longer runs just on the CPU but now uses the GPU as well so this will lesson the load on your processor and should boost your fps.

For laptop hardware, 30-70 FPS (Really the max is 60 because of screen refresh rates) is well within the acceptable range, and to be expected fiven the hardware. There really is no issue.

He has a laptop. Why would you ever suggest overclocking? The heat would probably toast the circuits, or melt the casing. Laptops are not performance machines, they are designed for low process intensive work.

Thank you for the replies, I have replaced the 1 with a 6 (I have 16gb), it has not affected performance. However I pulled up task manager during playing and found that I am only using 30% of my C.P.U. while in game. It's really disappointing that this laptop won't be able to preform, In every way except cpu power it supremely outclasses my desktop which would get 200fps w/ mods.

[quote]Because GTX 860M is not as good as people might assume. It's a rough equivalent of the desktop GTX 750Ti, probably a bit weaker.{insert broken quote tag here}
Sorta more along the non Titanium 750 GTX. Just an normal 750GTX.
You ensured OP, that the Power Profile (in Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options) High Performance the Processor Power Management was set to Maximum Processor State 100% and Minimum was 0% as well Cooling Policy to Active?
Example if need: http://i.imgur.com/aLdElG5.jpg (is for desktop, cannot bother with laptop at time)
Otherwise though, such seems almost like ideal performance for this machine or in general for Minecraft lately.

I had the Bloodrage GTI motherboard in the desktop, it served me well.
SeaWry, within the Nvidia control panel using the advice of grimallq I set java (and minecraft) performance level to high performance Nvidia processor. For the optifine video settings I have left most on default

Hmm, a Radeon 5800 is actually pretty good in it's class. With a fast CPU and Optifine (+ some tweaking) getting 200 FPS is not impossible.
That is literally pointless. The screen will only show 60FPS tops. If the OP is getting 30-70FPS on his hardware, that is GOOD and perfectly playable. It is in the golden zone for desired FPS, so I fail to see what the problem is here...

I see there, Fancy graphics is set. I know not why, but Fancy Graphics just butchers FPS without noticeable reason. I know it shifts around textures mostly, but you notice no difference other than leaves with it on (and 3D rendered items on ground). Just turn to Fast Graphics and use Quality and Details to change things instead. Such as turning Fancy for Leaves and dropped items. Even with my machine, such is about what FPS I would get on Fancy for absurd reasons.

That's the interesting part, nothing I seem to do makes the fps fluctuate by much. on the lowest settings I could place I still averaged around 60fps. Even with the highest settings and Extreme render distance I still average 50 fps, almost as if the game has some sort of setting that encourages it to average there.

Under those specs as long as you disabled two of the cores, which are unnecessary for the game anyway you can easily clock the CPU to 2.6 -2.8Ghz without undue heat production. I will admit that it's not much of an improvement but it's the best the hardware could support, and if your desperate enough it's worth a try. You wont get the same boost in performance as you would be raising the voltage as well as frequency but it works and that small increase can make all the difference.

This day and age, if you have to overclock to make something work, then it is not worth doing, especially on a laptop. A 2-400MHz increase won't get you much boost in performance at that level anyway, mobile processors don't scale very well compared to desktop processors.
Further, as I've said twice, 30-70FPS on his setup is about what can be expected, and is basically perfect. Its not a solid 60 like we all would like, but it doesn't drop under 30 either. It really is hard to ask for better then that.
