Hello friends! recently I upgraded PC's. On my old rig i was only getting 22fps on a modded server i enjoy. My new Rig performs amazing with everything and exceeded my expectations with the exception of miencraft. For some reason im still getting no more than 22 fps. Other people i play with have i5's. much less ram. and still have no problems reaching 60 fps. I have installed optifine and have tried frash installs of my os as well as trying different java versions. The specs of my system are as follows. Any help is much appreciated.
I am also having the same problem with my computer, and I DO have an i5 (Leading me to believe it is a graphics problem). I can run minecraft at 30fps MAX with optifine installed.
The Xeon is a server CPU. Not really optimized for running games, or any typical application.
I wonder why you thought it was a good idea to stick that in a gaming rig.
You're wrong. I run Xeon processors and they are far more superior than any Core series processor. They are designed for servers, yes, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with using them in a gaming rig. You just have to pick out the right one.
It would have been much better to get a Xeon with 4 cores and 8 threads @ 3.8GHz (Intel Xeon E3 1240) than it would have to get a Xeon E5 with 4 cores and 8 threads @ 2.4 GHz. The first processor is also significantly cheaper. If you want a Xeon in your gaming rig, it's almost always best to go with an E3, and not an E5 or E7. Why? Because anything with more cores will lower the amount of GHz you can run at for the amount of cores you get. They have almost the same performance when you add it up, but split it into a lot more cores and threads. 16 threads+ is not too useful for gaming. Nobody can say I'm wrong here as I have personal experience with it.
If anything else is at fault here, it's Minecraft. On 1.7 Minecraft only uses one core of your CPU, so it's limited to 2.40GHz on one core. It can't use all 16 of your threads. That can be a problem. Give 1.8 a try, as it utilizes multiple cores.

He's talking about the GPU and you are talking about brocessers (CPU)

I admit I overblown my earlier post. A lot probably. Still using Xeons for a desktop/gaming rig isn't mostly wasting their multi-threading potential a lot? Since most apps/games aren't designed to utilize so many concurrent CPU threads?
I've seen some tests done. Even Minecraft 1.8 seems to work better, on average, with high speed 4 core i5s and i7s, then it does on high end Xeons.

so all the blame gets shifted towards the software. and you need 3 posts to do that?
come on now... economics. could've done that in one.
The result is bad, and the software could be better (1.8....... )
but what remains, and that is undeniable... is a potentially weird Hardware setup. what remains to be known is the Motherboard type.
That could be another grinning Moment.
Yes, I did need 3 posts. 3 People were blaming the problem on it being a Xeon processor, which in this case is the problem, but I needed to explain to all 3 of them that some Xeon processors are perfectly fine for gaming. If 3 people are wrong, I have to quote all 3 of them in order to correct them. And no, when I click inside one editor and click "Quote" it does not direct each quote into the same editor, if this is what you meant. I'm not going to manually quote a person either, that's just ridiculous. Seeing as you don't even know how to quote a person, I wouldn't expect you to understand.
Okay guys. Solution finalized. I just rebuilt the rig from scratch. I-74790k Msi z97 Gaming-5 motherboard 4grrd3 1866 vengance AMD R9 280. That should be more than plenty.

CPU: DUAL XEON E5620 (16 threads total)
GPU: AMD RADEON HD 7870 GHZ edition
RAM: 24Gddr3 2400MHZ
STORAGE: 4X WD Black (7200 rpm) on RAID 0
He will teach you the ways.
Seriously, You know how to get 4HDD into RAID 0 but not that a XEON will be **** in a gaming environment
Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel core i5 3570k quad core
GPU:nvidia quadro FX 540
RAM: 8gb
SSD: 120gb
Could anyone see what I'm doing wrong here?

His GPU is not the problem, His GPU is much better than mine and I get a steady 140 FPS in modded and vanilla on max everything but render distance.
