I can run 1.7 with all my texture packs, HD or not, and it runs perfectly. When I click to run in 1.8 it won't even get to the loading screen. Just crashes and says this:

You've only got 1GB of memory - Don't give Minecraft ALL of that. Give it more like 512M, that's all it needs. (Giving an app all memory leaves none for Windows, which slows everything down)
I have 8GB on this system. I tried changing that in the startup settings and i changed it to XMx3G but it came up with an error. Is there a specific way I can give it 3G?
It really doesn't need 3G - 2G is a max, and you'll never use all of that on an unmodded client. As I said, 512M is really all that's required. If you're unsure, just untick the box next to JVM args. It'll then automagically decide what's best.
