I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, but I was wondering how I could continue working on a map that my friend started and invited me into her multiplayer. I thought maybe each map had it's own seed number (and if so, how one would find it). Any suggestions?
Each world does have a seed that you can view by typing /seed in the chat box (if you have permission to do so, some servers don't allow it). But using the seed would just get you a new empty world that matched your friend's world when it was first created. To play on the same map as it currently exists, you need to copy it from your friend's computer or server to your install directory.

your friend seed would only be your friends map not anything they built onto it. meaning if you put that seed into minecraft it wil generate and entire new map so youre out of luck there. what you can do is get your friend to upload the map and you download it update it and keep switching like that. alothough that is a tedious project and i would not reccomend that. the easier route is to just start a server on your friends computer and port forward it with that map installed. whitelist it so only you two or whoever you want is able to play and youre golden

The other thing to know is that if you copy her world onto your computer and you run it as a single player world, then you will end up with HER [the host's] inventory and location. Just as if you had downloaded one of Vechs' maps.
