ive been having crashes on minecraft lately with my memory/ram usage. i have a computer with 16gm ram. ive tried a couple things but nothing seems to increase my memory on minecraft. when i edit my profile on the MC launcher, check JVM arguments, and edit the "-Xmx1G" to anything more then 1G, and then run MC, the memory usage still stays the same. ive also deleted everything in the JVM and put in a code something like -xmx xxxxMB or something like that, and that didnt work either. can someone please run me through how to enable more ram on MC so it stops crashing?
We need to see what is in your Game Output, which can be found on the last tab in the launcher with your Minecraft username.
First, copy all of the text (right click on any empty space, press "Copy All Text"). Then, go to http://paste.ubuntu.com/ and paste it. Click 'Create Paste', then share with us the link (the URL) that it takes you to.
You probably have a _JAVA_OPTIONS injecting a parameter of -Xmx512m this might come from environment variables, but some users are never able to find the source of it. Although in that case I think a few have eliminated it by uninstalling and re-installing Java.
awesome, found the fix in that post. turns out java options was set to -xmx512m not letting anything go higher, went to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings-> Environment Variables and deleted the java option causing that. thanks for the help!

Retired StaffYou have to run the game once first before the tab appears.

Retired StaffOdd, there are no errors. Could you give the launcher log instead then?
at title menu (with mods and texture packs) http://paste.ubuntu.com/8275528/
when i run minecraft right now i have used memory at 350mb of 499mb and allocated memory at 100% (499mb)
and when i change the "-Xmx1G" to 2G, or anything else, nothing changes.
Or like this guy, not able to figure it out how to remove it permanently: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/unmodified-minecraft-client/2176223-unable-to-allocate-more-ram
