I have been trying to get Minecraft to work on Windows 8.1 for so long, and yet it wont work.
I run the program in Windows 7 compatibility mode, and also in Vista, and XP, but it wont work. My drivers are up to date, I have the latest version of Java, and heres the report when I ran Minecraft normally:

Please, somebody help. I really want to start playing again. And I have no way to do so anymore. Also, Minecraft ran fine on Windows 7, I'm using the same PC.
I had a similar issue with Minecraft after going to 8.1 and it turned out to be related to the installation of Java that I had. So that is why I asked. Always a good idea to rule out simple stuff first, but I would tend to agree this sounds like a graphics card driver issue.
Also, with it being an upgraded system from Windows 7, I have a sneaky suspcion that this is an AMD/ATI based graphics card or chipset. From what I understand (never owned an ATI card but I do have the ability to read and remember stuff ) there were some older cards and chipsets from ATI that were supported on Windows 7 ATI drivers but are not supported by current Windows 8.1 ATI graphics drivers. It may be that it simply won't work with the current hardware in Windows 8, using compatibility mode or not. I hope that this is not the case in this situation, but I know that others have had this happen to them.

Moderatorthis is a drivers issue, not minecraft or java
