I was about to record a video when I noticed that I had nothing in my inventory or hot-bar. I checked all chests but nothing was in there. All my progress is gone! So here is the story: When I upgraded to 1.8 everything was fine. I switched back to 1.7.10 and then it happened. I went back to 1.8 but still nothing there. All that to say, anyone have any ideas on how I can get back everything?
PS: I didn't lose my buildings but just all the items that weren't used.
Sounds like your nbt data was cleared, I would suggest just spawning in the stuff you think you had. You see, the nbt structure was changed in 1.8 meaning that when you went back to 1.7, 1.7 could not read it, deemed it corrupt and deleted it. Cant help you much, sorry.
While downgrading "worked" fairly well the last few versions (except the missing blocks and things like that), downgrading does not work in 1.8! If you downgrade from 1.8 to 1.7, your inventory and all blocks with an inventory (chests, hoppers etc.) will be empty and potentially, even more corruption is happening. Downgrading is not, was never and will never be officially supported! I advise you to run 1.8 in a seperate directory, or move your 1.7 things to a different one, so that you won't be able to accidently open your world in the wrong version.
If you already did it, by accident or "on purpose", restore a backup or find other ways to restore the items (e.g. via using Creative to give them back from memory), other than that, there is no way to repair this.
As one of the staff said, downgrading from 1.8 to 1.7 will destroy all your items in the process due to the fact that Minecraft 1.7 cannot read the 1.8 data, and just erased it. Your only choice is restore from backup or make a new world.
