This started happening today after my anti virus software, ESET NOD32, told me to restart my computer because it found a virus that needed to be deleted by restarting. When I came back, my minecraft launcher gave me the following -

So can anyone do anything to help me or have I screwed myself over?

Firstly, open a command prompt as administrator: open the Start menu, type in Command Prompt, right-click the Command Prompt result, select 'Run as administrator' and accept the UAC dialogue.
In the Command Prompt window, enter the following command and press enter:

netsh winsock reset

You may need to restart your computer afterwards. Finally, try Minecraft again.
