The night before last Minecraft updated to 1.8 and started freezing up. I tried all kinds of things trying to figure out what was going on. I saved a backup of my .minecraft folder in another location before experimenting. I figured out how to revert to 1.7.10 which solved the freezing issue but now all of my items in chests are gone. If I go back to 1.8 and replace my save folder with my backup then my stuff is back but I am back where I started with the freezing issue. At this point it looks like either it's going to keep freezing up or I lose all the stuff I have collected. Any suggestions?

Just keep going with a new save and see if it isn't just that save.
