For some reason, my Minecraft Launcher is not seeing the Minecraft 1.8 update. I've updated to the latest version of Java for Mac (1.6.0_65) and I'm running Mac OSX 10.9.4.
This has happened more than once, and I've been forced to update manually. Where can I get the manual update for 1.8? (The version on the Minecraft.net site is from last year.)
I just figured it out I was having the same problem. I had the version set for 1.7.2 so I could run forge. Check your profile settings in the launcher to see if yours is set to and older version
Yes, that's what the problem was. I was running Forge and when I switched back to my vanilla setting, it installed MC 1.8. Of course, now I have a different problem. I'll create a new thread for that.

If it isn't updating then either the launcher is unable to get the current version list, or your profile is configured to play a specific version.
