Okay guys, I have (what I would think is) a pretty serious problem here. When I switched from vanilla Minecraft to my Forge profile earlier, the contents of my inventory and ALL of my chests - standard, Trapped and Nether, regardless of where they are - all disappeared. This also happened a couple of days ago, when I changed profiles like that on another of my worlds. I have no idea what's causing it. Is anyone else experiencing the same, or has done at some point in the past, and is there any kind of fix for this? Losing everything in all of my chests is VERY disheartening...
Also, something that may or may not be related, I've noticed a minor bug in my snapshot-enabled profile, and now with all of my profiles since MC 1.8 has been released, in that whenever I load up a world, there are random groups of Iron Trapdoors lying around all over the place -- what's up with that? o_O;
This is a difference in how Minecraft changed the storage of Meta and NBT data of a block. Chests, signs, and anything with a variably state or inventory got affected, some more than others. See if loading the world on the regular snapshot profile gives you your items back.

I did post a reply here, earlier, but it seems to not have been registered by the system... hmm.
Anyway, as I said in said post, I have tried logging in again as you suggested, but my inventory's contents are still gone, as are (I would imagine) the contents of all my chests -- and I say 'imagine' because it seems that whenever I load up my main world, the one where I've been having these problems, I'm currently in the Nether and getting very up-close-and-personal with a very pixelated wall...a situation in which I appear to be stuck, as none of the movement controls respond; it's almost like the game is lagging, only it's not. Please see the attached screenshot for a frame of reference to what I'm talking about. Literally, the only thing I can do is open my very empty inventory, and access the Escape menu. A very disconcerting development. Getting a bit worried now. =/
Aaand once again my previous post seems to have disappeared, so I'll just repeat myself... ¬_¬
I've solved the problem of the staring-at-the-wall thing; the game spawned me in the floor of my main Overworld base, and I was in Creative Mode, so couldn't suffocate and therefore didn't realise. Broke the block, out of the floor now, one minor problem solved.
The matter of my stuff being erased - ALL of it; even the inventories of droppers and dispensers, so many of my redstone contraptions are broken too - is still persisting. Is there any way to fix this?
Also, something strange that perhaps might be related, but whenever I log in to my main world, there are groups of Iron Trapdoors dotted randomly everywhere about the place; similarly, when I log into my 1.7.2 Forge world, the same thing happens, only it's minecart tracks instead. Anyone have an explanation for this weirdness?
