When I try to play the game, I get the message "Sorry, but we couldn't connect to our servers. Please make sure you are online and Minecraft is not blockd. (Socket TomeoutException: connect timed out)"
I have played before with no trouble, although it has probably been a month since last time. My internet connection seems fine - I'm getting to support forum just fine! I don't know how to check if Minecraft is blocked, but it worked last time I tried to play. Minecraft says its servers are all healthy.
The minecraft troubleshooting only sggested re-downloading the launcher. I did that and no change. (It is saying version 1.4.4, BTW)
Found some other threads suggesting adding minecarft to the exception list in Java (which I did), and running control prompt and resetting several things (winsock? ivp4? and something else? - doing this my memory...). and restarting. Did those, no change.
I don't know what else to try. I just like to fool with this little game my college daughter gifted me in March, and now instead of some entertainment I've just spent the last 2 hours trying to find answers that don't work. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to fix this? I'm running W8.1. I wish I could just download once and be good forever, like old PC games were, without having to always reach out to the internet even when you are just playing by yourself! (I sure did love Rollercoaster Tycoon back in the day...)
Anyway, thanks. I know what she paid for this game, and I know I have not gotten enough value from it yet to give up just yet.
