Well I was playing 1.8pre3 and tried to open a LAN world with my sister, so I downloaded a no premium version for her but when she tries to log into my world it appears the mesage java.lang.NullPointerException
Reconfigure your launcher profile so that the launcher stays open when you launch the game, get into this state again and post the content from the Game Output tab and perhaps the Launcher Log tab as well..
