I've reinstalled Java 2 times now, so it can't be a "missing set of root-certificates".

I don't know if Amazon always hosted the downloads, but perhaps that's the issue? Any insight would be good. Thanks for the help

The problem is on your computer. Java can't find the certificate to validate/decrypt the SSL connection with amazon.

You could have more than one Java installation, and you are updating the wrong one, or the bad certificate store is being carried over to the new install.

Ensure that you uninstall the correct java install, or better uninstall them ALL. Clean up any remnants left on disk at Program Files\java or Program Files (x86)\java, then reinstall.

Gerbil, the issue is not my computer (at least with what you are saying), I've reinstalled Java multiple times (and yes, I have removed the traces left behind)

Fine. It's not a problem local to your computer. Good luck with that!
