My daughter and I both play. A few months ago, we joined a couple of multiplayer servers. She always had a bit more lag than me, but her computer was older, so we just dealt with it. Then it started dropping her and she couldn't log back on. We know it wasn't serverside or internet connection since I was still able to play with no issue. So we built her a new computer. Now, single player works great, even with fancy graphics on. One of the two servers also works with no problem. But the other one has so much lag that it is totally unplayable. (Typing in chat takes about a minute per letter typed and I'm not exaggerating. And moving at all is just impossible.) Again, we know it is not the internet or the server as I can play it with no issues.
Any ideas?
(I know I haven't provided much detail, but the main thing that confuses me here is that we seem to have eliminated all the things it could be. How can it be the connection when we use the same exact one (and not always at the same time)? How can it be graphics drivers if single player and another international server work fine? Ditto on memory? Ditto on any and all video settings?)
OK. So we tried everything. (We thought.) And then it occurred to me that we hadn't tried having her log on from my computer. I didn't think for even a minute that it would do what it did. Even though I had no problems and nearly no lag when logged on as me...she logged on and it acted exactly as it did on her computer. Sooooooooooo slow as to be totally unplayable.
Conclusion: Problem was on the server, but not on the whole server.
It seems to be only in the area she was in when the problem initially happened. It took several minutes, but we were able to type /home and teleport her out of that area. Problem solved. She can now play with nearly no lag on that server.
Thank you for your help.
