I recently built a new gaming computer with a Radeon R9 280x graphics card installed. The graphics card is working fine for all other games, however in Minecraft I only get around 50 fps. For such an expensive graphics card this does not seem right, therefore I believe Minecraft may not be actually using my GPU properly. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I already have all the latest drivers, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced!
Minecraft uses ancient inefficient technology. OptiFine may help.
It's better to have a processor with weaker cores but more of them, than a processor with fewer cores but more powerful. Hyperthreading is very useful here.

Yeah, unfortunately this is the case with minecraft. This is my fatal flaw. T ~ T
I've built a new computer just few days ago and immediately returned to my lovely Minecraft
The same issue goes for me, too. The specs are as follows:
CPU: AMD FX6350 3.9 ghz processor.
GPU: ASUS AMD R9 270
RAM: 4gb ddr3 1600mhz
There actually is no game-breaking problem but, when I test the cpu/gpu usage and fps with PlayClaw, it showed that gpu usage was 0% and Cpu usage was around 20% and I was getting 30-40 fps. However, randomly (sometimes every minute, sometimes totally randomly) the gpu usage goes up to 25-30% and I get a stable 60 fps as I should for several minutes. V-sync is on and maximum fps is set to 60, which is my monitor's refresh rate.
There is no big problem as it's a slow paced game and I understand that Java works in mysterious ways but I really would like to know the reason behind the low (almost none) gpu usage. Is it only bound to AMD gpus or not, is there a way to fix it or not.
