Apologies to the mods, tried to post this a minute ago and a glitch occurred that only posted the title. .

Finally admitting I may need help to figure out how to optimize minecraft. Tried several things, love the game, but regularly hit really bad lag spikes, even in the very early stages of the game.

Running FTB Monster - 206 mods, windowed, optifine with far distance but everything else set to lower graphics and struggle to maintain 25 fps with lags making the game into a slideshow at times.

Computer Specs:

AMD A6-3650 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.6GHz

8 GB Ram - 6 GB dedicated through the FTB launcher

64 bit windows 7

Nividia GeForce GT 440

Please let me know what other information I can provide. It might just be my computer is not strong enough, but I am hoping there is something I can do to improve the game. I know its not the best computer, but it certainly isn't the worst.

First of all minecraft doesnt need 6 gb to run, the ram is there so you just dont run out of memory. Second of all its most likely because of your processor. Maybe try turning down the render distance and also the smoothing aswell as the graphics settings, it should gain you a bit more fps.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I wasn't clear with the original post. I do understand that I can lower the settings to get better fps. I guess I am wondering if I should have to given my computer specs. This computer has run most games from the last year or two at mostly high settings, so it feels like minecraft should run a little better than it does. That being said, I am not an expert on code or minecraft, which is why I posed the question here.

Yeah usually the fps problem has to do with world terrain generation. The better the processor the faster it will load chunks and render everything. I am not 100% on that but I have a pretty good mind the processor has a great impact on how games play out, special for those that create random generated worlds. I hope this was helpfull.
