I apologize if this is something that has already been asked, or even if it is a common problem that has been around for a long time.
Whenever I try to download the vanilla Minecraft client (Minecraft.exe) onto my computer (via Google Chrome and Firefox), it successfully downloads and becomes visible in my downloads. I can even drag it on to my desktop. However, my problem comes when I double click the program and a small box appears that gives me the option to "run" or "cancel". Of course, I select "run" but then Minecraft doesn't appear and nothing happens. Is this a problem with my PC? If so, is it something I can fix manually?
You need to reinstall Java.
First, go to Programs and Features in Control Panel (Add and Remove Programs on XP). Uninstall everything that says Java in the name. Then, go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp to re-install Java.
