After upgrading my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 I got a nasty surprise. Minecraft wouldn't launch! I've searched online and on the Minecraft forums for solutions, however none of the solutions I found worked. Please help!
I don't see a reason why it won't work your computer has a slightly worse CPU power but more ram and i have windows 8.1 and it works fine. Try COMPLETLY deleting all Minecraft files except the maps and downloading the launcher and trying again.

I need more to go on than "It didnt work." Where in the process did it fail?
If it didnt fail anywhere, then what probably happened is that Windows automatically reverted back to the previous driver because its newer. Post another DxDiag.

Well I followed the instructions, and at the end it said that the the download you gave me should not fail to install, and it still failed.
Then in that case, the driver should still be on the system. Choose it manually in Device manager like the instructions say. If it doesnt show up in the list, then you can chose the "Have Disk" button and then navigate to the install directory (usually C:/AMD) somewhere in there should be the driver. I could do it easy myself, its just explaining this sort of thing is difficult.

Thanks, this worked.

My DxDiag is right here: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/3be5c3582de150b6cefc
The Radeon HD 4000 series is no longer actively supported by AMD for Windows 8.1. Youll need this http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows 8 - 64 And then follow these instructions http://www.philoking.com/2014/03/23/fix-amd-radeon-hd-4800-driver-installer-fail-on-windows-8-1/
I tried this and it didn't work. I'm not sure if its because I'm doing it wrong though. I followed all of the directions and it still didn't work
