I was having major issues with Minecraft on my new Win 8.1 laptop which meets more than the recommended system requirements. My view would jump from the ground to the sky with lots of lag, especially when hitting the escape key. Frame rate would go from 6 to 60 and back to 6. In short - unplayable.

As part of my routine build of a new laptop I disabled Windows Defender and installed my preferred anti-virus software and guess what?

Minecraft issues resolved!!!

Now my question for anyone who knows... what was Windows Defender doing that it impacted Minecraft so bad and have others encounter the same?

Windows Defender was probably doing some background scanning that cause the lag spikes. That is the only possible effect it could have.

Whatever it was doing it was beating the crap out of Minecraft. Didn't have any impact on any other games... just Minecraft.
