In one of the (semi) recent snapshots, Minecraft has been given multithreading support. In the past, because there was no such support, computers with dual graphics cards could only use one of them. with multithreading support, has that changed? Does Minecraft support dual graphics cards?, and if so, how can it be activated? I am running dual Nvidia m750 GPUS (yes, it's a laptop), and using both of my graphics cards would give a nice performance boost.
No, multithreading is for using multiple CPU cores. GPU workloads are already highly threaded. A modern GPU has hundreds of cores (shaders). splitting the workload between 2 different GPU's is something else entirely. I highly doubt it will ever happen on Minecraft. It's usually reserved to DirectX games and requires driver support.
Thanks for the reply. That is unfortunate, but since Minecraft is not exactly a modern game in terms of graphics I can't say I am surprised.
