My son recently got a download card for his own PC Minecraft account. We have been playing Minecraft for about 2 years now on our family account but we would like to play each other and have our own usernames. How do I set this up? I have established an email account for my son. I had a hard time getting it verified but Mojang notified me today that it is verified. Now I want to create his account with his unique username. Somehow through this process I have messed up our Microsoft account and now his xBox account won't work. So, I have royally screwed this all up. Anyone out there who can help or walk me through this? The other concern is will we be able to use the mods we have added on the original account in my son's new account? Will we have to install them again as well as forge? Can we have more than one Minecraft file in the appdata location in our computers? Please help.
I don't believe you can have the same account in the appdata but I'm pretty sure you can make a separate account on your computer other than the one you usually use to login. Also, you wouldn't be able to use the same mods, you would have to file share the mod files to the other account so he could put it in his appdata folder. So just file share and he can copy them. Also, if you lost your password or something else messed up with Microsoft, you could reset your password or go to their website.
EDIT: You might be able to have them both on the same account if you use a different name and keep it in the roaming folder. It will act the same as the appdata folder put it will be named differently and it will be where all the files go for that account. You would change the directory to that folder so all the files go there. But, I don't know if it would work.
I got the xBox part fixed. It was a password issue with the new email. But I am still stumped on how to get the PC second account set up. I am running one laptop in Windows 8 and the other PC in Vista. Both have the latest version of Java available to their respective systems. It would be super convenient to have both accounts on each computer with a different directory for each. Has anyone out there done this or have experienced this? Thanks in advance.
As I said, try having to accounts on the launcher (1 for you and 1 for him) and give them each a different directory. You would re-download Minecraft with the same launcher but to his directory. You would do the same on the other computer and just copy the mods to the different directories.
Okay, I do not have Minecraft on this computer but I will do my best. If you have any questions just ask. I'm not sure this works %100 but when I can I'll try to test it but this computer can't play Minecraft because it's an older laptop. But, I've been playing Minecraft since it came out so I have a general idea of what I'm doing. #4 Was questionable so I can try to rephrase it if you need me too. Here's a step-by-step:
Account: Your Minecraft (What other players see), Profile: Used for selecting other mods/accounts (What you see/select)
1. Load the Minecraft Launcher
2. Click Edit Profile (with your profile)
3. Create a New Profile with a Name of your Choice
4. Either log into that Profile and log-in with the other account OR Log out of your Account and login to the new Profile and login then.
5. Once on your son's account, click Edit Profile and uncheck directory (should have the ".minecraft" in it's location (By Default))
6. Create another folder in the %appdata% folder for convenience and change that folder to it's directory by copying the location of the folder.
7. Re-download Minecraft into that folder.
8. Drag the mods (If you still have them before you "unpacked" them) and drag them where they go)
Awesome! Thank you so much!! I am sure other people will have my same question. I got his account set up and was able to go on Multiplayer mode and join a server. I went on my laptop and joined the server too but we still couldn't play together for some reason. We tried to meet at a location and we were both there but not together. Must have gotten on different servers for the games or something.
I will try to do the directory. It works up to step 4. above but I will try the directory part. Thanks again for helping me.
Yw. What I mean by #4 is that you either log into the new profile or you have to logout on your account before you login to another person's account.
(e.g Current Profile: MARCUSHANS, New Profile Name: Marcus, Log out of MARCUSHANS while profile is selected, login to new account and select new profile.) Hope that's a bit better. If not, I can try to help you out by doing it myself. (Without another profile) But it would still work the same.
