I am unable to play minecraft because of an error: "RuntimeException: No OpenGL context found in the current thread" from the launcher.

I have not played the game in over a year, but in the past, the game worked, and I have not changed the hardware since then.

I have seen this question addressed multiple time on the forum, but no solutions have worked for me. My graphics card is a bit old, AMD HD 4890.

You need to update your graphic card drivers. What is Operating System are you currently running?

I have already updated my graphics card driver. Windows 8.

Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1)

The driver you have comes from Microsoft and not from AMD/ATI.



Hopefully this driver will work: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows 8 - 64

otherwise you may have one of those GPUs whose support was dropped between Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
