Hi, lately I've been trying to join some minecraft servers with my friends and I haven't been able to. When I tried to join, I wasn't able to and the connection eventually timed out. I've tried multiple times and it hasn't worked once. I tried to see if I could join another server but I wasn't able to connect to it either (They are well connected and popular servers like pvp.Desteria.com, play.phanaticmc.com) I tried a very unpopular server and I was somehow able to connect to it and not the others. I'm confused and wondering why this is happening? Could it be due to where I live? I live in Canada and I'm unsure if that has something to do with it. (I don't think it would due to me being less then ten minutes away from the border)
edit; the message Im getting when this happens is; java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information:
My firewall was taken down to see if that changed anything but it didnt.

It has nothing you being in canada xD (I live in canada too :P) Also please add more information.
You aren't alone. This is an ancient error that's persisted (seemingly uncorrected) through many versions of Minecraft.
Many people have solved it by opening the "hosts" file, located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc, as a Notepad document and manually deleting any text that has the word "minecraft" in it. However, if your hosts file is already clean of "minecraft"s, there's not really any known solution, at least not to my knowledge, and I've been dealing with this problem for a long time now.

Please check out "The Law Man", a short e-book written by a friend of mine, and available for download here. (It's really good! Also, hooray for product placement!)
