I was playing FTB Unleashed for 1.5.2 and never experienced any graphical problems. However upon trying Monster and TPPI for 1.6.4 my CPU will drop below 40% usage for a second and the whole game will freeze the current frame for about 2 to 3 seconds. The only time it doesn't do this is while standing still.
Anyone have any ideas? Again...in Unleashed I get zero lag and it runs very smooth with all mods on plus a few of my own. Monster and TPPI both lag to high hell.
Specs that are relevant...
CPU: Phenom 965 BE @3.9 GHz
GPU: GTX 660ti
RAM: 12gb (don't recall speed of the top of my head)
Can't recall if its installed on my SSD or not (leaning towards not).
I also have the CPU process for javaw.exe set to high.
I'm having lag issues as well. Most of the time I have no lag at all, around 100-300 fps. Today, Minecraft is hardly even letting me join servers. My computer seems slow, but Minecraft seems extremely slow. Help?
Will give this a shot when I get home. I'm fairly certain its at 4 or 6.
Don't allocate too much RAM, because that can sometimes slow down the game more than not allocating enough. The best amount to allocate is 2GB. Not too much, not too little.

I recommend 3 instead of 2, as it leaves 1 bit of ram for excess memory/leaks. Don't forget to set your permgen a little higher (512M).

Using fx-4300 I'm not having this issue. Your computer is definitely good enough for ftb monster, however you might wanna install optifine.
If you are running fine without it, please do not install optifine, as that interferes with most mods out there.

Well I installed optifine before seeing some of this stuff. Allocating my RAM to 6 (I know you guys said lower) and optifine combo did the trick. I'll try setting the RAM lower.
Dude, the problem isn't that you have TOO LITTLE RAM, its that you have TOO MUCH RAM. Large amounts of RAM allocated can actually cause lag. Try 1-3 GB.

Where do I find this permgen and what does it do?
In the FTB Launcher, it is called Additional Java Parameters and is found in Options Tab => Advanced Options. Use these JVM arguments for Permgen, or the other spoiler for my personal JVM arguments.
Permgen only:
-XX:MaxPermSize=256M -XX:PermSize=256M
Personal Arguments (requires Java 64-bit and includes permgen, will give you a bit more performance):
These can also go in the default Minecraft launcher, but you will have to add some -Xmx and -Xms statements to it.

Hmmm...odd. This may be the problem then.

Don't think you read his post, he will try lower.
