I signed up for this forum just to post this problem.
I have begun to build a large map a while back, but started in 1.7.10. Nothing too fancy, just walkways, domes and all lit by glowstone rather than torches. The main feature is an obsidian pyramid that reaches from sea level to max height, about 300+ blocks base length (hee hee). I had begun a similar build a while back, but since the pc was shared with the entire family, my daughter was able to delete worlds, and thus I lost it, forcing me to start over.
Inside the pyramid I have created several floors, the main floor at ground level having kept its generated terrain sort of like a domed garden. The first upper floor I wanted to support with arches and columns built from stone brick blocks and slabs. So far so good...
I have built two columns and have begun to connect them at the ceiling with an arch, then it got late and I saved. Today, I loaded the world and attempted to continue the arch, but as soon as I tried to place a stone brick slab, it placed a stone slab instead. And not at the spot where I wanted it, it placed the slab half a block down from the ceiling made from whole blocks. I went "wtf" and tried again in a different spot - same deal. It appears the brick slabs don't stack but are placed as full blocks, not touching each other. I also can't get them to join up sideways.
What's weird is that my hotbar has ONLY brick slabs, brick blocks and brick stairs, no stone slabs, but the game places stone slabs, not brick. And I have built a bunch of stuff with these brick slabs already, placed as always, touching each other at the sides, not only at edges.
Any suggestions? Pictures can be provided, if necessary.
So I tried to place stone brick slabs in another world... Took a few screenshots to illustrate what's happening.
First image shows the blank world.
Second image is after I placed one stone brick slab on the ground. Note how it's not a brick slab...
Third image is after having placed a few more slabs. If I stack them, the top slab is briefly visible half a block above the lower one, then "snaps" in place directly on top... also strange
Fourth image is after I save & quit and reload the world, no replacing by me, but now all previously placed slabs are actual stone brick slabs.
Last week, my slab placement was as it has always been - logical. Now it makes no sense. Placing slabs on the underside of a block makes it plop on top of the next lower spot, even if there isn't a block there... if I then try to attach a second slab underneath the first, it gets placed on top.
First image shows a brick block "ceiling"
Second image shows a slab being attached half a block down
Third image is a second slab being placed on top of the first although aimed at the bottom.
Fourth image shows a third slab being attached half a block under the first two...
And again, they aren't brick slabs although I'm holding only brick, but change when saved and reloaded.
