Hi guys, I just wanted to report an issue that has been happening for the past few months, but it has really started to get bad. Ok, so I live in Australia and I play Desteria Factions Server (http://www.desteria.com) and I am getting extremely bad delay lag. (Block lag, chests won't open, chat isn't updating etc.) This is really strange seeing as I have average internet speeds for Australia, high FPS (which probably doesn't matter) and a good computer. (I USE MINECRAFT 1.7.10, BUT 1.7.2 OR 1.7.4 STILL LAG, SO DON'T SAY THAT!) BTW, my specs are:
Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina Display
2.6 GHz Intel core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
OS X 1.9.4
Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics
250 GB Flash Storage
So, im kinda puzzled :P. BTW, here are my speedtest.net and pingtest.net results:
And Pingtest:
If there is anything else I can tell you guys, then just comment. THANKS! BTW, don't reply: 'get a better computer', because I can't afford one.
EDIT! IMPORTANT!!!
Ok guys, just realised I better mention something else. Even though I have around 30 ping on pingtest.net, I still get around 180ms ping on minecraft. Have a look:
BTW, down at the bottom of the list you see the climaxcraft server that I names Aus? It is Australian, so it should work fine. But the bar is really low and it said it has 600ms ping, but it runs as smooth as butter even in the evenings. Anyway, I hope u guys can help.
LAST EDIT, I PROMISE. PLEASE READ!
Right, so just wanted to mention that my friend who lives 500 metres away from me plays the exact same server without problems, same with all of my other friends. The one who lives near me has 69 ping and 79 jitter on pingtest.net. Mine is far better, yet he plays the server without issues. Anyway, thanks again.
Alright, thanks. Ill see if I can contact and do anything with my ISP. If not, I guess Ill just have to deal with it. But what I am confused about is even though the server is in Germany, it runs without issues during the day. Any idea why?
Thanks guys I managed to speak to my providers and they confirmed that sometimes with providers like theirs overseas gaming can be quite laggy. Thanks!
A simple case if physical distance. You are basically on the other side of the world. Under-sea cabling is not a direct path and must travel through several hubs at ~97% the speed of light. There will be lag. Nothing you can do about that, physics doesn't allow it.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.

I know my ISP might be pretty terrible, but I was wondering if any of you know why NONE (like, nobody) of the people I know have this issue. They might have some crappy ISP but it still works better than mine. Even if mine doesn't handle overseas gaming well there must be some other people who have the same issue as me that I know, but nobody does. BTW, my router is ASUS and I bought it half a year ago. Its really new and we have been having no problems with it. Its not just me that has this problem, so does my other family member who uses minecraft at night on a 2013 iMac. Right now it's 4:00pm and its lagging like crazy, it started about an hour ago.
Sending a ping is literally contacting a server and determining how long it takes for the answer to come back. The speedtest ping was a ping to the speedtest servers, which is relatively close to you (in Australia, local server). However, the Desteria servers are located in Germany, on the other side of the planet. Of course, that request will take much longer, and that's the lag you are experiencing.
And the last thing, your friend 500m away being able to play correctly is probably due to him having a different ISP that maintains overseas connections better.

Ah, you mentioning a time does help. In the afternoon, more people start using the internet. Therefore, there's more data to be sent over the cables the ISP provides. Basically what happens, is that the cable gets too full and starts queing stuff up. That causes your lag. Try playing in the morning or the evening to see if it's better. Also, the people around you, do they tell you that they've got no issues or have you seen that they don't have any issues? Because they might have the same issues, but they don't know it's an issue.
Thanks so much for replying so quickly, now to answer your questions.
Yes, after about 4-5am in the morning minecraft multiplayer speeds up again, then bogs down at about 3-4pm in the afternoon, only to resume its speed at 4-5am. I highly suspect the cause of this to be more people using their wifi (like you said) but I'm confused why my friends aren't lagging.
And yes, I am certain their mc does not lag at night. In fact, the friend that lives 500m away gets FASTER mc multiplayer speeds during the night.
When I go to stay at theirs for the night I can play mc multiplayer with no lag whatsoever, but the instant I arrive home (if it is between 3-4pm and 4-5 am) my multiplayer gets bogged down by lag. I ran some speed tests with him last night, he got 70ms ping and 79 jitter on pingtest and only 4mb per second download on speedtest. If you look back at the images I posted, I got 7.27mb per second, 33ms ping and 3 jitter. (we both got 0 packet loss percentage). Lol, I don't know whats happening :o. If you could reply that would be cool haha thanks
EDIT:
Everyone is saying 'the reason you are lagging is because the server is in Germany'. This WOULD make sense, but its not just Desteria. I got the IP's to some aussie servers and they still lag like crazy, sometimes even more than the American-German servers. Here, take a look at this photo:
It shouldn't lag though because its in Australia (am I right?) but it still does.
Its not just Desteria, it is the whole minecraft multiplayer that lags. So, just to clear this up, don't say its because the server is in Germany. Because even though it might be the cause, it happens for all servers. Even Australian servers.
Alright, so far I've only been able to get a ping test on an iMac and a Macbook Pro in my house. Ill try to get one from my friend ASAP. I use a mac, so instead I opened terminal and typed: ping play.climaxcraft.com and it started running, so I hope this is what you want. BTW, why are the numbers of ms so jittery? (they bounce from 093 to 952). Take a look:
Macbook Pro:
iMac:
I blurred out names and IP's for privacy reasons, so the white spots actually had text in them, its not an error.
BTW, I want to take these down ASAP because I uploaded them to a public photo website so you guys could see them, but I don't want everyone peeking at my computer details ;). So when you next reply, I will probably remove them.
First, I'd like you to manually ping the climaxcraft server, as the Desteria one doesn't allow manual pinging. To do so, hit the start button, then type cmd in the run box. You'll get a console window. Here, I'd like you to type: ping play.climaxcraft.com. Screenshot the results and post them here.
I also want you to manually ping via a different PC/laptop in your house. Use the same command and screenshot the results.
Lastly, repeat the same action from your friends' PC.
If you want (but not necessarily) you can also do this at different times, so we can compare the differences.
There might be a problem with the cable that runs into your house. If this is the case, we should see a notable difference in the results.
Ok, so the values on both machines are quite identical. So this issue is not related to just one machine. So we're looking at your house connection here. Next step is to determine if it affects the region you're in. That's why I want you to do the same test in someone else's house.
Also, your privacy is not compromised by ping data :P. There's literally nothing about you. The only thing I know about you from these pictures is that you have 2 Apple machines. That's not exactly privacy-compromising.
Ok, lol, thanks for replying. Just wanted to note (might be a bit late) that I have 3 wifi networks in my house. 1 is a 2.4ghz network off a brand new ASUS router. The second is a 5ghz off the same router. The last (don't know the ghz) runs off a router upstairs that doesn't have a name (sorry). But they all lag.
Ok, I saw what Conzy said and here are trace routes for both Climaxcraft (aussie) and Desteria (german):
(In attachments)
Im going to a friends house in 2 days, so Ill get the /ping then. Until that time, what can we tell from the trace routes? (don't know why he wanted them)
Ok, so it seems most of your lag comes from the distance (judging by the traceroute). You can try this traceroute too on your friends machine to see the difference in the routes.
I'm afraid it does look like you'll have to find a server closer to home though.
Righto, Ill get the trace routes and ping tests when I go to his house. He has a mac pro too, so is it ok if I run the tests on my machine?

I posted a comment with my pings
Still, it's possible that the server and you're house have bad connect. Try tracert (the server ip).
