I wanted to load up FlaxBeards Steam Power mod, but when I tried to install forge, it told me to run Minecraft 1.7.10 manually. I have the 1.7.10 version of Forge and the 1.7.10 version of Minecraft. If anyone could tell me how to fix this and install forge please do.
Yes I have but it still wont let me.
Wait hold on now all the sudden it works I don't know how I did it but it just downloaded. I ran Minecraft 1.7.10 like all of the times before but this time it downloaded. Weird, but I got it!
I am having the same problem and have tried several times. I even deleted the download of forge and re-downloaded it but still getting the "need to run 1.7.10 manually". I think that to run it manually I need to either "Edit Profile" or "New Profile" and pick the version that corresponds w/Forge 1.7.10, save then play. I have tried both edit profile and new profile and still getting the error. We are using a Windows 8.1 laptop. Anyone have any other suggestions? My kids really want to try and do a Dragon Mount Mod but we haven't been able to get any mods to work.
OK this is how the process works. The first time you play a certain version of MC (and you can play any version that has so far been out pretty much), you go to edit profile on the launcher and you set that game version. You run it...and the launcher downloads the proper files for that game version from mojang servers and sets them up. It doesn't actually come packaged with your launcher originally.
Without these files, forge has nothing to install on. How can it possibly install forge 1.5.2 or forge 1.8 or whatever, if the launcher has not downloaded those files yet. So....run the right version of the game once like it tells you so that the launcher can install the right files, and make all the proper folders.
It doesn't help if you run 1.8.1 or 1.7.10 if you're installing forge 1.6.4. It needs you to run vanilla 1.6.4 once first.
Then...run the forge once with the game before you start dumping mods in. The forge if you don't run it once, hasn't again created proper files and folders for you to dump mods into and run them.
After you run forge + game once, then download mods.
You can just call me Canary.
How not to look like a total fool in the forum games
