What I normally do is just restart Minecraft and it works fine, but it might be that your Minecraft isn't allowed enough space, and thus has run out of memory.
Basically Minecraft has X amount of space to use when running. If it fills that space, it craps out and crashes. I have 4GB allocated to Minecraft. It never runs out of space. You must either have a ton of mods, or are sitting with the default 1GB.

Today I was playing Minecraft singleplayer when it started lagging a lot. After a while, this screen came up. (Image is attached.)
I chose back to title screen but then Minecraft crashed. If you want me to show you the crash report, tell me.
If anybody could help that would be great.
