This has never happened to me before until today and I'm not sure why it's happening now.
Things I've already done:
- Update Java
- Update GPU driver
- delete and re-download 1.7.10 jar
I'm not getting this error when I open a world in the latest snapshot (14w30c).
Here's the crash report:

Using framebuffer objects because OpenGL 3.0 is supported and separate blending is supported.
Anisotropic filtering is supported and maximum anisotropy is 16.
Shaders are available because OpenGL 2.1 is supported.

Apparently, if you set your render distance past 16 chunks in a snapshot profile and switch to a 1.7 profile, the setting carries over. The result is the game crashing because 1.7 does not natively support render distances higher than 16 chunks.

Anyone got a clue on how this could be fixed?

That's about the most vague and useless piece of advice in history.
