When I use the default Minecraft launcher (Minecraft.app) it uses Apple Java 1.6, but when I use the Minecraft.jar launcher, it uses Oracle Java 1.8. I thought this was only the launcher using it, but when i looked in snooper settings, the game did use 1.6.
Also whats with this java 8, is it like beta? Java 7 is still the recommended version but they also say java 8 is the recommended version. I installed java 8
Ok I found out that this is Mojang's fault. Mojang needs to update the JavaApplicationStub. So right now to use the latest version of java you'd have to use either the Bootstrap.jar inside the Minecraft.app or use Minecraft.jar from minecraft.net/download. I could recompile the Bootstrap.jar into an application but that is quite complicated
Not sure about servers though. When I had java 6 installed, the craftbukkit server was using java 6. After i uninstalled it, the craftbukkit server uses java 1.8.

Retired StaffAre you facing any issues? If not, it may not be a good idea to tamper with the Java installation on a Mac machine.
Also found out that bukkit server uses Java 1.6, but some plugins require 1.7 or later, like Skyblock plugin.
