Can't update to any newer versions other than 1.7.2

When I try to download Minecraft 1.7.4 or any further versions, including snapshots, I get a really weird error report. Can somebody help me?

You can only run Minecraft versions 1.7.2 and below. The community patch on that article does not guarantee success.
