I've been playing in 1.7.10 for a while now and this is new. Today I tried out the latest snapshot - 14w30b - in a separate profile, and messed around in single world I generated specifically for snapshots. I didn't load anything else while in the snapshot profile. When I switched back to my normal profile, I could no longer access any world or MP server without experiencing this crash. It might just be a coincidence and the problem is something else, but I have a feeling it's related to the snapshot in some way. I just can't figure out what.
It's not a Java issue because I can load a FTB modpack instance without any problems. So Minecraft theoretically *can* run, it just isn't..
