Hi guys. I've been having some insane lag spikes lately. I'll have 120 fps then suddenly 0 for half a second, and then 120 again! I have 64bit Java installed as well as Optifine and am running Windows 8.1. I use a 64x64 texture pack but even with vanilla textures I get these spikes.
I've stresstested my OC'd CPU with 50 runs of LinX with a small problem size (~750mb) and then 10 minutes with all available RAM. The hottest it gets during stress testing is 90C, and in MInecraft I don't even think it breaks 65.
Does anyone have any idea why my beast of a machine is getting these lag spikes? It makes PvP pretty much impossible
Are you using the launcher jar or exe? (I find that the jar is more stable)
So I just did a pass of Memtest86 and no errors.. RAM is most likely stable but I'll do an overnight run tonight I suppose. If anything I'm leaning towards Windows 8.1 being the culprit here :/
1.7x The issue appears anywhere from 1.7.2 to 1.7.10
For my monitor? 60Hz. I had Vsync disabled yesterday and figured maybe if I turned that on it would help the lag but it didn't do anything.
I don't have any but the issue appears whether they are "Xmx3G" or "Xmx1G"
Pretty sure I'm using the .exe launcher. I didn't even know there was a .jar version.
I wouldn't say it's a RAM problem, if it is a RAM problem you would be getting BSDs or data corruptions.
I'd recommend limiting your FPS to 60 if that's your max refresh. It'll allow the video card to run slightly cooler.
Still, it could be a number of things; like defective harddrive read/write, bad video drivers, java/windows handling memory.
I also recommend using the jar launcher if you're having problems with the exe. It's an option.
Vsync will automatically limit it right? I also used Western Digital's HDD Diagnostic software to run a three hour diagnostic on my main HDD and it checked out A-ok :/ I just did a clean reinstall of graphics drivers as well. Going to check on the GPU's temps but I don't think they're high at all (it does fine in BF4 1080P).
I will try the jar launcher too.
