Hello. I didn't see this exact issue posted elsewhere, and I hope this is the correct forum for this problem.
I play on a friend's private server (no mods installed) and have had no problems until a few nights ago. The game froze on the "Downloading Terrain" message as I exited the Nether, and timed out a few moments later. Since then, I have been unable to reconnect. Most of the time I will get the same chain of events; freezing on "Downloading Terrain" and timing out. Occasionally, it will get far enough for me to see a chunk of the overworld, but I am unable to interact with anything and the game will time out moments later. The server has been shut down and restarted since then, but the problem remains.
Has anyone else had this issue? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the reply. I spoke with my friend (server host), and they are having the same problem when logging in themselves. It will get to downloading terrain and time out. Any further suggestions? Also, if the problem is server-side, should I re-post my issue in a different sub-forum?
That would likely mean that it's an issue with the server, there is not much you can do about it.
It seems that the server may not be able to handle all the connections, so you'll have to contact the host and have them look into it.
If someone is hosting it locally, then you shouldn't be surprised as regular PCs aren't really made for server hosting, let alone most ISPs do not allow it (also checkout Realms if so). Otherwise, again, it's something your host will have to explain.

This seems like a connection issue on your side.
Do any of the other players experience that? Have you tried pining the server and checking the latency?
