For some reason, when I download the latest version of the Minecraft Launcher (1.4.4), it doesn't give me all the options of what versions I want to play. It ranges from 1.4 to 1.6.2. Even though I'm able to open up Minecraft, join servers, etc. It just won't do that. I'm confused because I would expect to see later versions such as 1.7.10 or 1.8. I am currently using it on a Mac running Snow Leopard. Just a side note, I don't have the newest version of Java.
Is there a bug with the 1.4.4 Launcher? Do I need the latest version of Java or OS X? Does the 1.4.4 Launcher not work properly on the Mac I play on? Please answer.

If not your launcher may be having difficulties downloading the latest version lists.
