I opened the launcher and changed after checking JVM arguments -Xmx1G to -Xmx2G I then unchecked the JVM arguments box. My super-lag didn't go away on a server so I checked it again. It had changed back to -Xmx1G. Does anyone know why this is happening? Also, I just installed 64-bit Java, and my singleplayer does not lag at all. I have tried on tons of different servers. Same thing every time.
if you are on windows 8 press ctrl alt delete to bring up ssome options click on task manager when that loads up find minecraft running then right click ~set priority high then find java and do the same thing will increase fps and reduce lag
This is a temporary minor solution for the problem. It is hardly a fix for any long term use as it has to be set every time and the benefits are very small while cutting off other processes making them slower.
OP: Uninstall java completely and reinstall the 64bit version. If you installed the 64bit version over 32, then there can be lingering files/configurations causing conflicts. Also, if you want to assign more ram, don't uncheck the java arguments box. That will revert it to default.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
